Lowcountry Bonfire
By Susan M. Boyer
Once again, we are treated to Mama’s wonderful, drool-inducing cooking and Daddy’s antics, which aid in his favorite pastime of getting Mama riled up. Also, there is a bit of after life assistance as Liz and Nate seek to uncover the mysteries of the most recent crime on the island of Stella Maris, South Carolina. They have a few sticky moments that might cause you to hold your breath for a moment or two.
This one kept me wondering for the longest time about who did it and the answer was a definite surprise to me. The wrap-up on this crime was a very sad one that left me on the verge of tears. The discovery of “whodunit” was an emotional situation that was very believable. I could see it happening. The sucker punch was enough to throw anybody over the edge.
There are some bad words in this story, one being the “f” word near the end. There are no really graphic intimate scenes. This book is pretty clean as far as that goes. I like this because when I read a crime caper mystery, it is for the mystery, not for any romance.
Lowcountry Bonfire gets all five stars. If you love a good mystery, you can’t go wrong with this one!
