The Right Place at the Right Time: Stories from a Life in Education by Curtis Connaughty is a very entertaining and heart-warming story of a man, starting with his childhood on the farm, through his school years, military service, and marriage to the love of his life.
Much of Mr. Connaughty’s work life was devoted to educating the young people of Eden Prairie, Minnesota. He was both a teacher and an administrator and, in my opinion, excelled at both. Mrs. Connaughty was a teacher, too.
There was a time of sadness in their lives together, but, overall, this book brought a smile to my day. I enjoyed reading the various ways Mr. Connaughty dealt with discipline issues at the school. (You definitely need to read about the mother going to school!). It was also very interesting to read about how the school and its various programs grew over the years as the surrounding community did.
I hope that Mr. Connaughty’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren realize what a treasure he has given them with this book. I would give most anything to have such a book detailing the lives of my great-grandparents, learning what was important to them and what brought joy to their everyday lives.
The Right Place at the Right Time earns all five stars. If you enjoy learning about the lives of other people and communities, you will enjoy this book very much.
It is like spending the day with Grandpa, listening to his stories.
