Never before have I read a book that was like one constant four letter word. It is very clear that the author has had a bad life thus far. The anger drips from each and every page. I guess I should have expected this much going by the title.
In the book In Spite Of . . .: How I Survived Abuse, Cancer, and a Giant F***ing Stroke by Mary Reid-Hill and David Tabatsky, we read the true story of one woman’s challenge to get back to normal after suffering a bad childhood, a stroke, cancer several times, and two bad marriages.
I have suffered from three strokes and I know how much a stroke can change a life. One has to wonder, was this author this bitter before the stroke?
We give In Spite of… three stars. The message is important, but the delivery is not what one would expect from an author who is trying to make a point regarding the devastating effects of a major stroke.
